As expressed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) chief, Mr Ravi Menon, Singapore’s interest in developing the Web 3.0 space has led to the inception of the “Global FinTech Hackcelerator 2022”. Organized by the MAS, the event seeks to harness innovative technology to further enhance the Web 3.0 space. In line with the country’s plans, the Singapore Management University (SMU) has launched 2 new Web 3.0 courses together with TechFin Consulting. The program will be focused on two major aspects of the highly anticipated Web 3.0, Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs) and the Metaverse.

The future of the local Web 3.0 scene has a positive outlook and corresponds with the sharp growth in global business opportunities. The global Metaverse market value is projected to hit $800 billion by 2024, and is accelerated by Binance Labs’ $500 million investment in Blockchain and Web3 companies, proving the immense potential of this industry.

Tech fanatics can prepare themselves for the future by acquiring relevant digital skills and knowledge to leverage on new opportunities. According to Deloitte, 83% of businesses are discussing or working on digital assets in the context of solutions or strategies. In response to this fast economic paradigm shift, SMU Academy and TechFin have designed this program to assist business leaders in identifying blockchain and Metaverse. The Metaverse may have a broader impact on education, the environment, healthcare, and diversity. The courses will benefit curious minds, demystify the areas of DAOs and the Metaverse and offer a stepping stone for their journey into Web 3.0. Participants looking to venture into the job prospects of this space can solidify their credentials by obtaining a certificate upon completion of the course.

The program is split into two separate full-day courses, with each focusing on DAOs and the Metaverse separately. Conducted by industry pioneers, it will feature Sheng Le Yong, the Ex-Deputy Director of the FinTech and Innovation Group at MAS and Soh Wan Wei, the CEO and founder of IKIGUIDE Metaverse Collective. Sheng Le Yong says, “Metaverse and DAOs can potentially revolutionize the way everyone works in future. We hope to empower leaders, and entrepreneurs to identify the value drivers of these innovative technologies and to give them the practical understanding to build solutions.” The “Understanding DAO” course will be held on 1st February 2023, and the “Diving into the Metaverse” will be held on 10th February 2023. Both courses will be a full day event from 9am to 5pm, and will be hosted on SMU’s campus.

For participants keen on exploring innovative technologies of the Web 3.0 space, these courses will delve into the fundamentals of Blockchain Technology and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). This opportunity will open up the doors to exciting career opportunities in the FinTech and Tech industry and will allow like-minded individuals to connect with one other, strengthening the local digital community.

The course will be held in a structure similar to SMU’s teaching pedagogy, where the trainers and participants are encouraged to have open discussions where they can freely express their views and learn from one other. Participants will be exposed to real life case studies and applications that will help facilitate a holistic learning experience and prepare them for the digital future.

Fees range from as low as $121, and can be funded by SkillsFuture Subsidies with up to 90% off course fees for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents. For SMEs looking to upskill their workers, the government supported Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS) will offer up to 90% in subsidies as well. Interested participants with access to Post Secondary Education Account (PSEA) can also be utilized for subsidies programmes eligible for SkillsFuture Credit support.
